Workspace Design: principles of component layout in different work zones |
component location which may be judged against a rating scale of 1-5, where 5= very high, 3= OK, 1= very low. If based on any one principle the components are placed, from the view points of other principles it may not be proper. For this, the ratings are taken on all four principles and then an aggregate response of these decides the final component lay out. Suppose we get the below ratings against each item: |

Hence, to distribute, D (Money box) and E (weighing scale) would fall in zone I; A, B in zone II; and C in zone III. |
Pumpkins being big and less sold are in zone III, where they would not obstruct the vendor's activities much and can be accessible to the buyers for weighing. Based on the above, a cart can be designed from the view point of vendor's ease of operation. Such study also could be done from the view points of customers, and both the needs are compared and the final layout of the horizontal kidney shaped surface on the cart can be conceptualized. If need appropriate curvatures on the surface may also be give to take care of ease of reach to various items on the surface.
